High Sierra uses American Red Cross as their certification provider. Lifeguards need two certifications: Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

No. If you are offered a position and are not yet certified, the offer of employment will be conditional upon you receiving this certification. In fact, we recommend interviewing and getting the job offer first, just to ensure you have the position lined up.

Yes. Applicants applying for reemployment must complete a new application each year. If offered a position again, they will also need to complete other updated employment paperwork such as tax forms before beginning work. Many applicants who have previously worked for Sierra will not need to re-interview.

An interview generally lasts 15-20 minutes. Applicants who choose to complete an application in person rather than online are welcome to do so; this will add approximately 10 minutes.

It varies based on your work location and our operating needs. Some locations have only 1 shift, but others may have an opening and closing shift. Guards may be asked to work at other nearby pool locations other than their primary location during peak times or based on business needs.
